Every module has documented aims and objectives, anticipated learning outcomes, a quality-assurance process and a certificate stating the hours and CPD development outcomes — the four elements the regulator requires for verifiable CPD. You log the hours in your own online CPD record.
Dentists need 100 verifiable hours per five-year cycle; hygienists, therapists, clinical dental technicians and orthodontic therapists 75; dental nurses and technicians 50. Everyone must complete at least 10 hours in any two-year period and make an annual statement.
Highly recommended: medical emergencies (10 hours per cycle, refreshed every year), decontamination (5 hours) and radiography and radiation protection (5 hours). Recommended: safeguarding, complaints handling, legal and ethical practice and oral cancer awareness. The other five topics — infection prevention & control, GDPR & confidentiality, record keeping, health & safety and equality, diversity & inclusion — are the training CQC expects everyone in the practice to evidence.
No. Every module is written for the whole practice: receptionists, administrators, coordinators and managers complete the same verifiable modules and receive the same certificates, which practices use as CQC training evidence and for appraisals.
No. Every track starts with a free taster and a foundation course written for people in their first weeks in the role. Advanced courses assume you have completed the foundation level or have equivalent experience.
There is no deadline — access is for life. Most learners finish a foundation course in two to three weeks studying an hour or two a week, and a CPD module in a single sitting.
