Dental Practice Manager FAQs

Still unsure which course to start with? Tell us about your role and we'll recommend a path.

Ask our team
Where should a new practice manager start?

Start with Commercial Practice Skills if the diary, enquiries and numbers are your immediate problem, or go straight to the Dental Practice Manager Certificate (Level 4) for the full leadership, HR, finance and compliance programme. CQC Inspection Readiness and the governance CPD modules slot in whenever an inspection or audit is due.

Is Commercial Practice Skills only for managers?

No — it is written for the whole non-clinical team. Receptionists, administrators and treatment coordinators each own part of the commercial picture (the diary, cancellations, enquiries, recalls, follow-up), and the course gives everyone the same language and KPIs. Many practices put the whole front-of-house team through it together.

Do practice managers need CPD?

Managers who are not registered dental professionals have no statutory CPD requirement, but CQC expects evidence of training in safeguarding, complaints, information governance, health & safety and infection control for everyone who runs the practice. Our certificates give you that evidence, and the Level 4 certificate carries 35 verifiable hours.

Do I need any experience to start?

No. Every track starts with a free taster and a foundation course written for people in their first weeks in the role. Advanced courses assume you have completed the foundation level or have equivalent experience.

How long do I have to complete a course?

There is no deadline — access is for life. Most learners finish a foundation course in two to three weeks studying an hour or two a week, and a CPD module in a single sitting.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Every course issues a downloadable certificate listing the aims, learning outcomes, CPD development outcomes and verifiable CPD hours. Practices use them for CQC training evidence and appraisals.
